My Climbing journey

Why I made this:

This website was created for a school project, and I choose to write about an activity that i hold very dearly, Rock Climbing.

My journey:

I started Rock Climbing on the 6th of October, 2022 at the Natural High Climbing Gym, and it was at that moment that i discovered how amazing this sport is.

After the first or second climbing session, I had a coach, a very good climber, who has completed 8b/8b+ both inside and outside. And two weeks after I started climbing, my Coach suggested that I climb in the next competition that the gym was hosting.

Needles to say, I was very surprised, I had only been climbing for a very short time, but that fact that my coach had thought that I was capable of competing, made me very happy. Even though I qualified dead last (no surprise), I really had a fun time, and I was ready to try again as soon as possible…

The next competition was scheduled for the 23rd of December of the same year, and I was very excited. This time, i got 16th place in the Rookie Boys category, which made me very happy. After the competition, the gym also held a raffle, in which i won a “Blouse” made for skiing and cold temperatures (here’s a photo of me from the comp)

About 5 months into my climbing journey, I was completing some climbs that were graded using a white tape:

-Yellow Tape: 3/4+

-Green tape: 4/6a

-Red tape: 5+

-White tape: 6b/7a

-Blue tape: 6c+/7c

-Black tape: 7b+/8a

At that point, I got 2 new coaches who were helping me overcome my biggest challenge yet, a National Bouldering Competition.

Unfortunately, by the time the competition would start, I would be 14yrs old, which meant that I now had to participate in a older category, which was way too hard for me. At that point, I felt very sad and disappointed, but in a weird way, that only motivated me to try harder and train better

2 months later, I was volunteering to help out my climbing gym change routes and put up new ones. While I was doing that, I made new friends, discovered a amazing community ad got better and better.

5 days before my birthday, my old coach offered to take me outdoor climbing, and it was amazing. In my first outdoor climbing session, I had managed to onsight 5 routes and try a 7a.

I quickly started to try some Blue tape climbs, and I managed to do 13 of them (until now)
